Stephanos Mangriotis is a freelance photographer, cinematographer and director. In his personal projects, he uses photography, film and multimedia forms to create stories about identity, borders and marginality. In 2011, he published his first book in collaboration with Amnesty International, Europa inch'allah, about migrants trapped in the Greek port of Patras. It was showcased in the Cosmos books at The Rencontres in Arles. His work about the second hand clothing industry in collaboration with an anthropologist was exhibited in the National Museum of European and Mediterranean Civilisations (MuCEM) in Marseille. In 2017, his short film Blue Sky from Pain, was selected in numerous international festivals including Film Festival Rotterdam, Journees Cinematographiques de Carthage in Tunisia and Jihlava International Documentary Festival in the Czech Republic. As a cinematographer, the film 'Galb Echaouf' that he shot was selected amongst other festivals at Visions du Reel in Switzerland, Amsterdam International Documentary Film Festival and won best short documentary at DOXA in Canada and Sharjah Film Festival in Saudi Arabia. From 2012 to 2017, he also coordinated a long term photography workshop with people suffering from mental illnesses, with the non-profit organisation Dekadrage and the public psychiatric hospital in Marseille. This work was exhibited numerous times and was made into a book entitled « 4 years of Madness » that was showcased in the Athens Photo Festival. Currently, he is working on a intimate project called 'To Drown a Stone' that explores questions of grief and acceptance and will take the form of a photobook published by Zoetrope and Dolce in Athens.
