“Stories from the Borders” brings together my work between 2009-2015 on borders and migration in Greece. From the state of transit in Patras to the fragmented lake of Prespa, from xenophobia in Athens to detention centres on the edges of Fortress Europe, these works speak of elusiveness: borders are not merely lines, but shifting, changing forces that leave their mark on bodies, walls, and memory. Both a gateway to and a fortified outpost of the European Union, Greece stands at the centre of current events. The different chapters offer an opportunity to step back and view this same territory through six years of research along its borders, alongside the people who live with and cross them. The images and stories bear witness to the absurdity and cruelty of these barriers, both material and intimate.
